The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Emirate of the Northern Borders region, inaugurated the new Arar airport, which has served the region with its cities and small towns since 1981. In recent years, the airport has seen an increase in the number of passengers traveling from and to the region, making it necessary to renovate the airport to accommodate more than one million passengers a year. The airport is designed to be environmentally friendly based on the latest international techniques.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the entire world, the inauguration of the new Arar airport project reflects the strength of the Saudi economy, and at the same time confirms GACA's keenness to significantly contribute to the realization of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals. GACA places great importance on airports and their development in all the regions, which goes in line with Saudi Arabia's objectives to achieve sustainable development of the national economy, and for the Kingdom's airports to represent a global logistics platform linking the three continents, and a hub for transport and air freight.

The inauguration of the new Arar airport comes as part of a series of construction and development projects which are being implemented by GACA. Therefore, the airport was designed to be environmentally friendly while at the same time fulfills the requirements of all ground functions and services. The airport's external design forms the letter "Ain" in the Arabic alphabet, which symbolizes the first letter of the city's name.
