History of Technical Training at GACA
The Aeronautical Technical Training Institute was established in 1382 H. It included departments for: Navigation Equipment Maintenance , Meteorology, Air Traffic Services, Communications, and Fire and Rescue.
The Institute was closed in 1400 H. to start sending students abroad . It was re-opened in 1406 H. to resume the in-kingdom training of high school graduates.
Since that time, a number of studies have been prepared for a radical development of the Institute ; and several forms have been selected . Finally, a detailed consultancy study was prepared by the University of Thales for developing technical training at GACA. This proposed the establishment of the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation on scientific basis and training curricula, taking into account the technical changes that have occurred in the industry of civil aviation all over the world. It also suggested employing modern techniques and advanced laboratories for the delivery of information to trainees in accordance with the latest findings of modern science. In addition, it suggested to continue training in English .
